I just really don't see the point in Star Trek anymore since people actually started making good Sci-Fi series like Babylon Five etc.

That paper was written by Martin Durst.
Martin J. Dürst
Martin joined the W3C Team at Keio-SFC in December 1997 to work on Internationalization. He is now a Visiting Scientist at MIT/LCS. Prior to joining W3C, he was at the University of Zurich, Department of Computer Science, and has been an active particpant within the HTML and CSS Working Groups as an invited expert on internationalization.
Martin obtained his masters degree from the University of Zurich in computer science, business administration, and Japanese studies. He has a Ph.D from the University of Tokyo in computer science with a thesis on compression and progressive transmission of images.
He's a geek.
No doubt a Star Trek loving geek.
This is probably the W3C's idea of an in-joke the size of Brazil.

The language was actually designed by an expert and has its own grammar and stuff. Hell, its better constucted than english.
It's made up, but its a real language, and certainly not crap.
See, I told his black man with 4 gold teeth today about the dictionary, and he said it was cool. And black men with 4 gold teeth are the definition of coolness and decide whats cool and what isn't, so there!

Allright, lets go over this.
Trekkie = fanboy, dresses in uniform, has plastic phaser, spectacles, blueprints, goes to cons in said uniform etc and asks to "Captain Kirk" about anecdotes of Spock's Pon Farr.
Trekker = fan, realizes its a show, enjoys it and has merchandise in the form of posters/movies on dvd/vhs etc and the occasional weird stuff.

Exactly, trekkie is used to describe the geeky nerd type of fan that gets lost in the fiction.
So here's a clue for you, clueboy.

Shai Halud comes from a genuinely good piece of literature, so that's not geekiness - it's being well-informed.
Which Foundation books were the "not terrible" ones? I must have missed those.

Star Trek has always in part been about innovation, exploring new ideas and defying convention.
The term Trekkie imbues the spirit of its true fans. Let's face it, it is and always will be the original term assigned to those who enjoy the show. The fact that it has negative affiliations should have no bearing at all and if anything should make it a proud title to wear. Those that do dress in uniform and goto conventions while rattling off various trivia and discussing the inner meaning to it all are the real fans, the ones that are innovating the genre and defying convention.
To call yourself a Trekker is to alienate yourself from 'that other group' and in doing so you miss one of the founding concepts that Gene Roddenberry tried so hard to portray in every episode of Star Trek from day one. The acceptance of other people in whatever form irrespective of how big or little your differences may be.
Your ideals on what a fan should or should not be are an insult to the show.

Thats nonsense, trekkies are the people that get lost in the show. Thats the entire idea of a 'trekkie' someone who who looses sight of whats real and what isn't. Now I'm sure that they understand its a show, but they go so far in their fandom that it's not healthy anymore. I alienate myself from trekkies in the way that I think its not healthy to dedicate my life to a fictional show like that. Does that mean I am against innovation or discussion about the meaning of the things portrayed? Absolutely not, you don't have to be a trekkie to think and talk about the show now do you.
Also, I differentiate myself indeed, that doesn't mean I don't accept the other group, I just don't want to be classified as part of it. See, you might accept retards in general, but if I were to call you one, you'd object and say that you weren't one.
