Speaking of cheap guinness... When I was back in Reading I noticed a new pub. "The Orange House", seemed to be part of a chain. Like a wetherspoons, but with lots (i mean lots) of TVs dotted about for sport, 2 pool tables, and when sport isn't on quiet background music.
