So you are going to uni....
...but which one? I am curious. To all who got in to their Firm or Insurance choices, where are you going and what are you studying? And to those who didn't get it what are you gonna do now? Clearing?
Personally I am going to Leeds to take a BSc (Hons) in Aviation Technology with Pilot Studies :-/ Get Private Pilot Licence at the end of it too (though the final practical exam for that is done independant of the course, everything else is done and I will likely get sponsorship through to take my ATPL - all good :-))

Cambridge for maths.
Are you a real person doing aviation studies or are you being funny referring to how HAL piloted a spaceship?

I went to the hometown school of insane difficulty and promptly failed out. Then I went back and nearly failed out. Then I went to the school I should've gone to in the first place.
But then I'm not like most people

4 year sandwich.
It means instead of a 3 year standard course, that I do two six month placements, making it 4 years in total.

i am the elder brother and im supposed to give him a little incentive and guide (cause he looks up to me apparently) so parents have requested i speak to him.
A little advice perhaps? Maths isn't my degree field.
thanks

A maths degree is worth π/180 radians hohoho.
I wouldn't have a clue, I haven't researched it either.

If you can stomach the ****ney wide boy twats who infest the Square Mile, with a maths degree you can earn loads of money in the city. Apparently.
I'm doing a Housing/Social Policy Degree at the LSE.
But that's not an undergraduate course tho.

Depends how much you want to make, and what work you want to do; "how much do maths grads earn" is a pretty broad question. If youre prepared to do something like moving to America and selling your soul to an investment bank, you could easily be making overf $100,000 in a couple of years (some of them even give upwards of $80,000 as a starting salary). You could earn quite a lot in London too if you wanted, though probably not as much (especially when you take into account tax/cost of living etc)

The trouble is, if he does end up working for an investment bank or whatever he may be making loads of money but he will very likely be seriously bored in his job! I got given an extremely good piece of advice by one of my flying instructors which he had been given by his grandmother :-/ "Take what you enjoy doing and find out how you can get paid for doing it". He took her advice and now loves his life (after leaving a very well paid job as an engineer). I have also taken that same piece of advice and have taken this course at Leeds because of it.

He's not even started uni yet though, why care about his career? He's got loads of time to decide.

I was looking aruond google for salary stuff, and investment banking jobs in London dont seem to pay that much (most of the sites I looked at said the average was around £70,000 and not many people get over £150,000).

heh - it depends on the job. If the job is a fixed salary job with bonus then salaries are usually a good average. (£50k-£150k)
Some people however take jobs which works purely on commission, those are the ones with the greatest scope to earn loads or in bad days you earn very little.
My boss in his better years earned +£300k, in some of his worse years his salary dropped to about £25k

Most people are silly then.
£100,000 a year isnt that much for a job that sucks. Remember, the tax rate in Britain is extortionate, so youre not going to have much over £60,000 left after the rest has been stolen from you. From that £60,000, about £10,000 will be spent compensating for the incredibly high cost of lving in London, so you have about £50,000 effectively.
Someone with a maths degree who isnt solely chasing after money could get a job they love doing, and expect to take home about £20,000 after tax minimum. So in real terms, youre getting (roughly) an extra £30,000 a year in exchange for doing a job that sucks, and working 60+ hour weeks.
sounds great
If money is your main driving goal, then working in Britain is dumb.
