i'm wondering why for example oly or eclipse haven't opened their public channels on netgamers for visitors now. i mean ok as long its underground its usefull but atm i can't see a real point since they are both well known in the public already.

and the securty issue is also a joke since i'm quite sure that eclipse has spys in oly and the other way arround so why still hide?

There will probably be a public channel at some point, I guess. There's just no need for one atm

As an aside, back in the 'olden days' (ok, R3-R4 or so) it was actually quite common for alliances to close their public channels until mid-way through the round. This probably for 'security' reasons, which I guess don't apply much any more, especially with mode +x and the greater awareness of proper security these days.

Still, I don't see much point in an alliance having a public channel unless they are recruiting heavily (which neither Olympians or Eclipse are).

I've never really cared for public channels but I think they should be there for some minor things. The main reason for them being simple contact with the alliance, it's members and it's command.

What I don't agree with is public channels for the following reasons:

To make OP's of that channel feel special
To give OP's (in some cases voiced people) the chance to mock 'newbies'
To show how powerful your alliance is by the amount of idlers in your channel

i like idling in the pub chan for my old alliance, others who also left it/quit pa visit and its easy way to see old friends in a chan and have a chat.

New alliances won't need a pub chan for that reason, but i still think a pub chan is a good idea. Means the alliance is not 'faceless' and some of that alliances members may have gal mates who need to come into that chan to pm ops asking for def for the member under attack.

also the membersbase of the new alliancess are old players so yes i have friends there most likely.

a public channel is to have a chat and yes, to recruit. Imo it's abit dissrespectfull towards the PA community IF you don't wanna have an open channel.

Nway, just my 2 cents, whatever it means nowadays ...

I know your clannels must be boredness itselves, but maybe other public channels such as FAnG and even Titans aren't idling channels most of the time.

Exactly. Public channels are good places to acquire new friends, to converse with old one's, and to dispell any comments of them being wastes of time.

Coincidentally, I rarely agree with Kjeldoran :eek:

well yes.. alliance chans are great for people who want to join, and for asking def for galm8's.. but other than that i really don't hang in public alliance chans. maybe i should check them out more often :P

Public chans are nice for abusing newbies

Also for galmates to get def, the occasional chit-chat.. etc

Making new friends? that was more valid in r3-4, when there were six figures playing PA, not a few thousand like it is today

People are usually in so many public channels, that they usually forget 9/10 of the 1s they are in and idle there for 10hours. Most public discussion is "lo" and thats about it anyway.

The only 3 decent public channels i've been in our #virus (lots of people get banned all hail cerebus, lo detty), #Madcows (for great convos about random stuff, and a great radio station) and #oi (because jane, Eyez and Illf8d made it something special).

Every other public chan i've been in is always fullof idlers and is just generally dull. So my advise is don't bother with public channels.

I totaly agree with this scouse m8, although iv only been to one channel like this... #FAnG

One of their HC's is totaly power-crazy, he will kick/ban/mute you for no reason other than wanting to show people what he can do.

like I said, that was merely my opinion. I find it disrespectfull, I didn't ask you to agree with it or anything. I see no and I really mean NO reason why not to have a public channel so not doin it must be for some reason which can imo only be lame

They can make you feel important by joining and demanding to speak with HC.
