I was going to make a pleasant point of 'Ah, another scouser, it's nice because you don't see many of us around the boards'
Think I'll eat me french bread pizza and stick to '**** off' instead.

Most would say George Washington, but it's actually Samuel Hunnington, who served as president of the continental congress when the Articles of Confederation were ratified.

WRONG - that's the answer everyone thinks is correct.
And it should have been 'of', that's been fixed now.
P.S My apologies, Pablissimo

that's simple...here's a good one:
Who is the only NON US President to appear on a bill(money) and what denomination is it? ($1, $5, $10, etc..)

Sure it was Samuel Hunnington? My source may well be wrong, but seemingly the first one served for only one year before him - but does anyone know his name?

The US existed as a nation for 13 years before this, presidents and all, but not under the current Constitution.

It was not the United States of America so your question is flawed.

Hanson was the first president of the US. Washington was the first under the constitution as we know it.

Winner
Quote:
George Washington is revered as the father of our country. He was not, however, our first president.
Washington was the first president elected under the Constitution.
But the United States existed as a nation for 13 years before the Constitution was enacted, held together by the Articles of Confederation.
During this time- John Hanson of Maryland was elected by Congress as the first President of the United States!
Hanson only served a year, and is now largely forgotten, but at the time, a colleague wrote to congratulate him on filling "The most important seat in the United States."
That letter was signed… George Washington.

There were also another 6 between Hanson and Washington, no doubt Google could give you their names but my American history doesn't go that deep. I only knew this one from 3 years of writing pub quizzes.
