Acts of Parliament
Help.
I'm looking a couple of specific act's, one from 1955 and one from 1984, but having looked round HMSO website and the Parliament website, I can't find anything earlier than 1988.
The specific ones I'm after are the Army Act 1955 and Police And Criminal Evidence Act 1984.
Searches on google have only brought up ammendments.
Any idea's?
I'm aware the city library likely has them, but I'm looking for an electronic form to search and keep for archive.

Re: Acts of Parliament
if you are a UK university student with access to ATHENS you can look up the acts on westlaw.

Re: Acts of Parliament
The second one looks pretty extensive so I assumed it was full, although I didn't pay much attention.

Re: Acts of Parliament
I seriously doubt you'll find the 1955 act anywhere online.

Re: Acts of Parliament
Have you tried searching for 'PACE 1984', etc?
What exactly was the function of the 1955 act, anyway?

Re: Acts of Parliament
just break into parliament with a bag of purple powder and a dummy explosive. they will assume you are a member of th press and you will be able to riffle through the PM's office at your leisure.

Re: Acts of Parliament
MM - Yeah I've tried the usual searches, "police and criminal evidence act"+1984, PACE+1984 etc etc but they all just come up with the additions or codes of practice like LHC gave me. I know it's a longshot finding the 1955 Army Act online but considering the entire Mills & Boon back catalogue is in eBook format, I thought someone on the internet might have for once taken an idea and done something useful with it.
The 1955 Army Act, which has been added to repeatedly since then, essentially governs what the Army can and cannot do. Since the Army is the tax payers property and the governments child, civilians call the shots when it comes to the forces spending and legislation. Obviously some random guy can't say how many troops to include on the next SAS hostage rescue mission, but you get the idea.
Demon Dave - no.
Roady - yeah I think that might be my best bet too. Perhaps they will allow me to photocopy the documents so I can scan it in at home, although with it being Crown Copyright I doubt they'll let me photocopy or scan it.
Radical - no.

Winner.
Skids, find yourself a student with an ATHENS login as was mentioned earlier.
I'd do it, but I haven't got one cos I never use the library.

Re: Acts of Parliament
Skiddy- you could always take a digital photograph of the documents. I know of people who do this in the public record office with the flash switched off.
