Yo! Geeks!
No, this is not a thread about geeks, more a thread of me asking them for help.
Back in the ol' days we used to make little .bat files for commands we usually did after one-and-other, but also to make life a little easier. Is there any way in windows do do such things, for instance, to start up a program, click a certain button, wait for 5 minutes and then click another button, then confirming the option?
This may sound a tad cryptic, but what I mean is, I am on a vpn, connecting to my uni and downloading some files. However the owner of that computer usually bans vpn connections after a certain time, so after I've received another 10% of the files I am downloading I have to reconnect. This is never after the same ammount of time, and since I want the downloads to continue when I am not at my pc or asleep I thought 'there must be a way to automate all this, it is afterall a computer'.
So, any thoughts?

Re: Yo! Geeks!
Not sure, only covered them very very briefly in Year 10 GNVQ ICT using Excel and VBA. The basic premise was you started "recording" the action you wanted performed, Excel would remember this and perform the action at the click of a button

Cosy up with the network admin and get your account exempted from the autodisconnect.
It'll be much easier

Re: Yo! Geeks!
why not download ghostmouse ...
http://ghostmouse.en.softonic.com/ie/20240
then record the actions for ten minutes or so, then have it 'play' the actions overnight?
It worked wonders for me in a certain MMORPG until they added ways of detecting them

Re: Yo! Geeks!
Excel/VB Macros and Windows Macros are two fairly different things.
In Windows 3.1, it was pretty easy to record actions, such as window closing, opening, clicking, text entry, etc. but that kind of interaction has been closed down with 95 and later.
I used to use a piece of software called WinBatch that allowed Keylogging/Mousemoving/etc
If you know some basic C programming, it's not too bad to use, but the results can vary. Hell, download the trial and give it a go!

Yeah, this. If youre VPNing that much then you presumably have non-standard need to do so, so explaning your situation to the admin may get your privileges increased.

Re: Yo! Geeks!
There is lots of software out there all depends what you want to do. For work I use macroexpress (not free) and autoIT (free). Macroexpress is more tab based and easier to program, although I dont like it very much since it is very idiot safe. AutoIT is very nice and works with DOM objects but is more time based unless you get the latest version which has some nice events built in.
What are you trying to download? Couldent find it somewhere else where they dont kick you off?

Re: Yo! Geeks!
yeah ghostmouse seems pretty straightforward, editting those files is also easy, trying to figure out what kind of delay they use, then I only have to copy paste a stable-state for like a couple of thousand times to let it reconnect every 15 minutes automatically to acquire a new VPN-id.
