Manson in 'bargains' shocker
I purchased today the following:
White Teeth, byt Zadie Smith,
Age of Extremes, by Eric Hobsbawm,
and
*Drum roll*
A twelth edition,
1908 copy,
of Marx's Capital. In good condition.
All for under nine quid. Now, to me, this is slightly 'good'.
And where did I get this all from? Oxfam. So remember, kids, don't forget; Charity Shops are your friends. If anyone tells you "LOLOOLO, ONLY DOLE SCUM GO IN CHARITY SHOPS BECAUSE THEY'RE FULL OF SHIET LOOLOLOLO", then rip off their gonads and feed them to their grandmother.
Charity shops = bargain books.
A lot of the clothes do actually smell of piss, though.

I bought o book for 20p from 'Scope' once and sole it to a welshman on eBay for six quid.
I tried to make a living this way and failed.

I found a shisha outside my local Oxfam 2 months ago still in useable condition. Just had to be cleaned that's all.
Charity shops are truly your friends.

It was apparently once owned by The Birmingham Socialist Centre. Now it is owned by me, and is thusly probably fullfilling in it's own minor way Marx's theories about the eventual consolidation of resources in the hands of fat bastards like me.

Charity shops where I live pretty much suck. You cant beat dedicated second hand book shops; one near me had about 10 copies of pretty much every book in the entire Wordsworth classics range, in brand new condition, at 2 pound 20 pence a copy.

Unfortunately, in Stockton charity shops are the closest approximation we have to book shops.
Not second-hand book shops, you understand; just bookshops.
W.H. Smith's is the only other shop in Stockton that has any real focus on selling pieces of writing.

Doesn't Stockton Library have those books? and if not will you donate your books after a few readings, thus educating your townspeople?

I've recently read Age of Extremes.
Good book, if you can get past dear Eric being an incorrigable marxist.

BTW what do you think of Eric Hobbsbaum, I used to like him but I can't use him beyond degree? Age of Extremes is a pretty good reference tool.
|
Hobsbawm's best work I think is 'Nations and Nationalism'.
In the 'Age' books he lets his own sympathies get in the way a bit too much for my taste.

Go to Pickering, over the road from the steam railway is a place called Yorkshire Quality Paperbacks. Best secondhand bookshop EVER! In the whole history of the universe!

Isn't there some little town somewhere in the UK that is full of bookshops and claims to have a copy of pretty much any book ever published?

The indoor market place is ok if you drop in about once every sixth months, unless you like girly books.
