A gimmick should be banned on sight.... They're just a waste of time.
Finding out if some account is a gimmick or just controlled by a retarded person (*cough*greek waiter*cough*) is up to the mods/admins.

The gimmicky goodness of Blind Guy was killed by people continuously asking questions like "If he's blind, how could he register in the first place?".

funny is funny completely independent of 'gimmick'
if you have a good idea for a gimmick, and you have a sense of humor, and put forth the effort, the result will be good.
but usually we get a bad idea put together in an unfunny way by someone who wouldn't have the attention span to make it work anyway.

I find it hilarious that to this day so many people have retained this silly belief that all gimmicks should be selfless 'charity' gimmicks whose only purpose is the amusement of others, etc.
You're 'missing the point'.

they could be just deleted on site for additional account use (clause #15, after "the karma-karmulian song cluase", but before "drunken mod-rage"), but they are allowed to exist because they might entertain.
that's the theory i always worked with. if you got something better...

'Gimmick' accounts are cool and the boards policy of almost instant deletion is sheite. Everyone has the option to ignore and it should be used more often by individuals rather than the mods deciding who we like to see posts from and who we dont. unless a so called 'gimmick' account breaks a rule they should be left to do their thing and die a death. Some of them are amusing, especially on a general Discussion board normally full to the hilt of politics related threads or poxy pointless polls.

There is an obvious difference between funny and intrusive/spammy. If you want to do a gimmick then make your own threads so that people can avoid them, and don't spam other threads because that is reason enough to be banned.

I dont really agree.
People cannot be funny all of the time but given the chance they can be funny some of the time. We should be allowed, with the use of the ignore feature, to decide who we like reading posts from and who we dont. Some themed accounts are pretty amusing and since I come here for amusement I really dont see the problem. If a particular themed account annoys you so much, try lightening up! If that doesnt work put them on ignore.
I really dont see a need to have all themed accounts deleted just because the voice of a few seem to be heard more loudly than the rest.
I also think it is acceptable that themed accounts post in other people threads if they are inspired to do so, as long as what they post is related to the topic and retains its style. And as far as I know the ignore feature works for this too!
People need to relax a bit and be amused instead of annoyed, if you really want serious discussion I dont think the Planetarion GD board is really the best place to find it, do you?

A gimmick is a big fat hairy bloke called Bob who comes here pretending to be a girl. Stick around, you will soon disciver who they are

a gimmick account is an account that was created for the sole purpose of annoyance, basically. Usually the creator alrady has an account, and only wishes to troll the forums under a different name.
I believe the spamming clause covers why this is illegal.

Gimmick account's are the ****.
As Nod said, Europop D was one of the best, and I'd also say that tpe's Captain Obvious (from back in the day) was up there too.
And Julie, a gimmick account is one who's posting style is gimmicky, such as pretending to be a greek waiter, or this 'MCfunkYRapaZ' type and the way he/she/it posts. They all (mostly) tend to be ****, and end up getting banned for excessive ****ness and spamming the said excessive ****ness.
And what Mirai said.

Indeed,
However I have 2 board accounts and have had them for quite a while (more than a year) I use both on a Fairly regular basis.
Neither is a Gimmick.
So which one would/should the Moderator close?

Mirai your interpretation of a gimmick account is a little off the mark.
A 'gimmick' account is usually created so the poster can post with a themed style, it is not necessarily to annoy. Often they do it to be amusing but themed accounts are not always recieved too warmly and and labelled trolls and spammers, which a lot of the time they aint.

Yes, I come here too to be amused, but reading stupid repetitive posts of a "gimmick" account, that have nothing to do with the thread it's in, is not amusing in my book.
Now, I'm not saying that EVERY gimmick is a bad one, but the lot of them is bad, spammy and ruins threads and are mostly meant to annoy other forum users. One example I can give you is this "McRapaz" guy.
People who do this multiple times should be tracked down and be IP-banned.
And the big flaw of this ignore function is that I always keep reading what the guy posted anyway, because he MIGHT have said something usefull.
