I don't see what all the rukus is about. A moderator is a thankless job, and there are few people well suited to the task.
As long as the person chosen is level-headed, even-tempered, and can be as fair and impartial as the situation warrants, you all should be satisfied.
The person you DON'T want to be a mod is someone who clamors to get the job. That is not a good sign.

if i were mod i would merge totally unreleated threads for pure comedy value
and create random polls around non-interesting or silly things
orientated around a "does my bum look big on this" theme
