It's driving me mad, why can't I think of the word I want?

Hm. I suppose occurance could be the word. It doesn't seem quite right for the context. Oh well. I'll avoid the issue by rewording.

There was a roadblock near my mother's house (where we went for lunch), because a local working men's club was on fire; a rather large blaze, given the buildings a few hundred feet long.
