coming together
people coming together in a place to gossip and chat about what ever they fancy
feels to me a bit like a coffee shop (none dutch variety) as that is where i do this sort of thing for real
what about you?
if you were to visualise GD as a real place where would it be?

Re: coming together
It's probably closer to a pub, judging by the standard of grammar and/or rationality displayed.

Re: coming together
Internet cafe hohohoho.
Definitely a pub. You have regulars you always talk to, people who are less regular whom you'd talk to nonetheless, people you don't know but who always sit in particular places with a pint of the black stuff, discussions over pretty much the same stuff as we talk about on here.

There is no way you can possibly tell me DM would be part of a student union.

No it isn't. It's the same old world it always was. And what's with the excessive capitalisation?

Re: coming together
Some uber-sized shopping mall. I agree that at times it's got a lot of pub talk going on but then there's the insane things going on on the side and I think the only place that has the same variety of subjects (between coffee shop chit-chat, pub shinanigans, entertainment centres (the flash games and movie clips that ocassionally get posted)) would be some sort of multiplex shopping centre.
The moderators are the mall security (or about as useful as one at least), Nodrog and co are the punks that roam about the mall on a daily basis seeing what caos they can drum up today (aka Mallrats).

Re: coming together
most people seem to think of public house
and if you come online at 11.30pm GMT quite often there is someone posting drunken drivel i suppose this is more realistic than my more gentile idea of a coffee shop
but what about all the youths? i think this pub needs smokey student pool room in the back

It's a veiled reference to a skit by Billy connoly in one of his performances about what he's come to notice about domino players.

Re: coming together
Dante Alighieri's fifth level of Hell.
Quote:
The river Styx runs through the fifth level of Hell, and in it are punished the wrathful and the gloomy. The former are forever lashing out at each other in anger, furious and naked, tearing each other piecemeal with their teeth. The latter are gurgling in the black mud, slothful and sullen, withdrawn from the world. Their lamentations bubble to the surface as they try to repeat a doleful hymn, though with unbroken words they cannot say it. Because you lived a cruel, vindictive and hateful life, you meet your fate in the Styx.

This place is like a pub with me as the alcoholic behind the bar serving up the refreshments*.

Re: coming together
I always kind of imagined it as a cross between a camp and the village/roman fortification arrangement you get in Asterix. Weird, huh?
