Evil Banks
I was just watching the Wright Stuff on channel 5 and they were doing a newspaper review. there was this story about how a couple were loaned £100,000 but the wife was the only earner and she only earned £5,000 a year.

the entire panel was gonig on about how evil banks are and that they are onl there to make money and give massive loans to homeowners so you have to sell your home and they can make their money back.

Now, none of them mentioned how ****ing stupid the ****ing couple were for taking a loan out for a £100,000 that they could NEVER replay in a million ****ing years.

It is entirely possible that the couple needed the £100,000 for some reason, but how could they possibly need so much money when their income is so low.

These people must surely be on benefits just to survive.

'People' on the whole are incredibly stupid and rarely think of the consequences. In my experience i've always found banks to extremely reasonable and understanding.

Then again, we are talking about day-time 'whinging women's' tv though aren't we?

And the banks are laughing their arses off because people can't manage their finances.

I wouldn't have thought a bank would lend someone an amount so far over their income. I mean the rule for mortgages is only about 2.6-3 times your income so I wouldn't have thought they would deviate so substantially from this for a personal loan.

I'm not too sure of the circumstances but they couple then went to some tv show which investigated and the bank subsequently dropped the loan or something similar, which surprised me greatly.

As an employee of Lloyds TSB (Offshore) , I can say categorically, that Lloyds TSB Offshore has practices in place which would prevent occurrences such as this from happening within the offshore group. I cannot comment on individual cases within the UK however as their lending criteria are different.

And for reference.

Offshore Banks , and offshore accounts, regardless of the bank involved, would shit on you from a great height for even ASKING for facilities which were 20 times your average yearly income (although reading the story of the individuals in this case, it does appear the branch did everything within its power to recover the debt, and has now agreed to write it off, as it was, in the words of documents handed to the newspaper , "Irresponsible Lending").

A far larger problem is insufficent lending. I have an income of £24k with no dependents. I have never defaulted on any account nor been in any rent arrears or arrears on either of my current loans.

I wanted to get a loan from a high street bank to consolidate my various debts but couldn't. So I am forced to go to various dodgy "Financial Services Groups" and now I am paying 35%+ APR on a £4k loan. fs.

Which High St bank are you basing this on, and whats your work history for the last 2 years?

£24k a year sounds like a lot, but job security (which sector do you work in, if its IT is it contract based, are you self employed, etc etc) is a big factor, plus if you have no credit history, you find getting credit difficult. Check your previous addresses on www.experian.com , pay £6 and find out why youre not getting the credit you want.

Could be a number of factors man.
