Holocaust Survivor
hey what exactly did you have to do to be a 'holocaust survivor'?

with Gibson's movie coming out, the news is rife with every hollywood producer's dad being a 'holocaust survivor', but I don't actually know what that entails.

Are they people that were actually in the concentration camps but were never killed? Would that include people who went to camps where people weren't killed? What about people that never went to camps? Like Schindler's guys? Or people that hid out and were never found? What about people that left for America in the late 30's early 40s? What about people that were producing movies in hollywood in the 30s and 40s and never cared about Hitler one way or the other?

I have no idea where this line is officially drawn.

PS: There was no holocaust! To cut off zar.

I am still confused, what does an event 2000 years ago have to do with the holocaust?

The general guideline for a 'holocaust survivor' is somebody who went through the camp system of the third Reich and survived. This could be one of the 200+ concentration camps, or one of the 6 death camps, either way. If you were processed through the German camp system, you are a 'holocaust survivor'. That is not an all-encompassing definition of course, there are people who survived the mass shootings of the Einsatzgruppen in the east for example who can legitimatly call themselves survivors even though they never went through the camp system.

However, people that hid without detection through the war, or fled before they were arrested cannot really claim that title. Notably, Shindler's workers were holocaust survivors, they were all attached to concentration camps associated with particular industries or factories before Shindler moved them to his new 'munitions factory' in Austria that never managed to produce any munitions.

How can it not be? jesus was killed by the Romans after being turned over to Pilate by the hebrew religious authorities. The story is anti-semitic to a point.

Keep in mind that most of the gospels were written between 200 and 400 AD, when anti-semetism was hightened in that part of the world, much of the stories reflect that.

My definition would be anyone who was sent to a camp, or even someone who was a potential target of the camps and was living in Axis territory (having to live with the fear of knocks on your door every day for years is enough to make you a survivor in my book).
