Geography type people help please
First time i've really asked for help on here so dont let me down.
I'm applying for a position at Shell and they've asked me the usual set of stupid questions which i've done, but the following one has me a bit lost:
Quote:
Due to the complexity of the business we pursue around the world, critical thinking and analytical skills are essential. To help us evaluate these skills, please analyse fully the main issues associated with responsible use of water and how you would handle the challenges that you see on a global basis. (Please use your own analysis of the challenges and some of the broader implications. )
|
That has nothing to do with biotech or management but i would rather give them a decent answer than the crap i can think up so if anyone wants to give me a couple of useful sentances to add i would appreciate it.

Re: Geography type people help please
That seems like a nonsensical question, so they're probably just looking for the normal meaningless crap that you find in these type of situations. You should probably mention something about how the challenge of managing water would help you enrich the environment of those living in the developing world, and how companies in our modern era have to think progressively, concerning themselves with the wide-scale consequences that their actions will have in the long term. Maybe throw in something about how the analytic and leadership skills which you've picked up at university (list them, especially the extra-curricular ones, if any) would help you to approach the problem in a clear-headed and flexible manner.
What exactly is the 'responsible use of water' out of interest?

Well water is a finite resource (in terms of how much is available right now in a given area) so it's about how this is used. If you go to Johannesburg you'll find entire settlements on the outskirts without reliable access to clean drinking water. Which is fair enough. But what pisses some people off slightly is that if you go to some of the richer parts of town you'll find people pouring hundreds of gallons on their lawns to keep them pristine and green.
From an industrial point of view it's probably about considering externalities when making decisions (e.g. not pouring needless chemicals into the water supply and shit like that).

Invade Canada, rename Lake Superior as "Lake Shell".
Achieve goals by paying off Republican Senate to send more of their good soldiers into suicide missions disguised at Quebecois Seperatists.
