The history of the telegraph is amazing.
Dumas in The Count Of Monte Cristo, writes of how Edmond Dante thwarted the investments of a former colleague by manipulating the telegram messages sent to him. It's amazing to see this environment of muskets, horses, swords, and sailships beginning to be influenced by electronic technology only a few decades after Napolean's final defeat.
You just get this feel of the nature of it all. It's wonderful.

oh, and I don't really mind as long as it's existence remains known and it's still possible to "get" telegram jokes (Like TK's )
