What if you'd die...
... would you like your friends or family notify GD of your passing away?
It's been crossing my mind lately (read: the past few minutes), and I'd like them to. Else you lot might all wonder why I won't be visiting GD anymore. And I'd feel all bad and stuff to leave you all behind in such uncertainty.

Re: What if you'd die...
Better to uphold uncertainty. I would make someone post that I’m believed to have died but they are not certain. One day he just disappeared. And so the legend grew!
At least on AD were I have been posting a bit longer!

Re: What if you'd die...
None of my friends and family know I come here, so you'll all have to battle on in ignorance.
(I'm now getting ridiculous images of phrases in my will like "I instruct my executors to inform the community at the General Discussions section of the Planetarion Forums on the Internet of my demise".)

I suspect that if i wasn't "seen" for a couple of weeks someone from here might phone the flat and ask if i was still alive.

I think about this a lot.
If I died I'd hope Ragnarak would find out fairly quickly (though I wonder who mym Mum/Dad would contact - go through my phone maybe) and let you know.

Something says me that poor Phil might be awefully sorry, and it would require the combined effort of the rest of the GD to comfort him.
So we would all be busy comforting Phil, so your right, we would forget you :\
And no, nobody would post here saying Im dead, dont think anyone of my friends/family really knows Im posting here.
Besides, Im obviously not a part of the gang, heh.

I doubt anyone on GD would particularly care, and if they were told I expect there would false messages of sympathy anyway.
So probably no. Either way, I expect JJ would find out and tell you all so I have no choice.

Re: What if you'd die...
I see some kind of commercially viable idea on this.
You create a profile somewhere on some site and when you are dead that site is triggered (the how and why is still a bit unknown tho) and it will automatically post and send messages to the forums of your choice. You could even make a statement for those forums, hah.

With somesort of auto-timeout-thingy if you haven't logged in or confirmed your existence for an x-period of time.
I'm going to make a businessplan RIGHT NOW.

I don't see what that would do. All it would do is tell people you hadn't been online for a long time, and presumably they'd have realised that. Given the choice between thinking (a) Bob has given up the internet, (b) Bob's been locked up, (c) Bob's computer has blown up and (d) Bob has died in a freak accident, I doubt many would think (d).

Re: What if you'd die...
My ex used to post on some forums I posted on, and next to her computer she had a note saying "In the event of my death, please phone xxxx" - it used to be some girl who was her friend, but it changed to me eventually. I was then under instruction to let everyone else now.
I've thought about putting a note somewhere to get someone to post here. I don't know how many of you would care though - because in the long-term, you'd probably all think that I just got bored of the internet and had left. Which might be better, thinking I still exist.

Re: What if you'd die...
It's my suspicion that asking your nearest and dearest to say a 'Goodbye' for you on GD could help their grieving.
After they've read the outlandish/far-right/far-left/homosexual/racist/sexist/elitist/downright unpleasant stuff half the people here post, your relatives will be relieved to know you've bought the farm and will be wanting to know why you didn't do it earlier...

Re: What if you'd die...
I naturally assumed that the world would die with me, possibly due to terrorist activities or similar, so there would be no need to notify the internet as it would have been distroyed, alongside everyone on it.
Yes I am wierd.

Generally, you can only make deals with the devil before you die. After you die he has your soul for eternity, so there's not much you can offer him.
