Can someone recommend a decent, free firewall.
Since Sygate have started limiting their free versiont to a 30 day trial, and i CBA to go and get a crack for it.

Re: Can someone recommend a decent, free firewall.
- WRONG FORUM DUDE... You know, they're even talking 'bout renaming / moving / deleting (whoah?) our technology IT stuff computer geek forum, and you blatantly steal the threads we need ^^
- Kerio Personal Firewall. I still recommend version 2.x (it isn't developed anymore), as it does what you expect a firewall to do. It clearly is for advanced users, but my favourite. You can set up rules for processes, protocols, ports and IPs. For example, I always want to block everything for my mail program except ports 25, 110 and 119. If a firewall can't do that, I don't like it.
Version 4 is ok, still has a nice status monitor, but I don't really like most of the features + handling. I imported my old rules from version 2, and as long as it works, I'm satisfied.
- ZoneAlarm. Still a "why not" I tell you. Install, set to "medium security", answer a pop up now and then, and most of your work is done there. Too simple for advanced users. But ok choice. Hmmm..
- Windows XP Firewall. Why not I ask you (again)? It doesn't watch programs, ok. But you can still open ports if you need to. Also annoying, ok. But easy and fast solution. (k, not really).
- Windows XP SP2 improved firewall. Apparently it's ok.
- BlackICE.
- Sygate Personal.
- Get a router!
