Re: lol, Okay George
He means that the various commissions from various countries (including now the one from the USA) have all found no link between the events of 11th September 2001 (ie. Al-Quaida) and Iraq/Saddam Hussein, and George W Bush is refusing to acknowledge that they're right as though he has secret evidence that no-one else knows about that says it's so. Alternatively of course it's because he's been saying it for so long, that he can't back down without looking like a complete moron*
*substitute for: "more of a complete moron" if you prefer.

No, I don't think he is lying per se.
There is a good chance he believes what he is saying.

It doesn't stop it being untrue, but it doesn't make you a liar.
If I say "My mum is alive and well and living in South London", it wouldn't really be fair to call me a liar because (say) she died 3 hours ago and I hadn't been told yet.

It's all a bit null and void with him anyway as he's obviously just an idiot.
If any war crimes court did get him he'd only get off for being an incompitent and not really knowing what he was doing.

Re: lol, Okay George
The one interesting tidbit in the 9/11 Commission's findings is that they uncovered numerous attempts by al Qaeda to establish links with Iraq to buy weapons, set up bases, etc (though no evidence that Iraq ever responded--hence the Commission's conclusion). I thought that was interesting because I had always assumed that if there had been links (or attempted links) they would have been initiated by Iraq.

You see the commission from the saudi princes are prolly telling bush it was linked.
Of course we can't tell the public about that, then people will start suspecting saudi of not doing enough.

The commission did acknowledge that a meeting had taken place between al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden and Iraqi intelligence officers during the 1990s in Sudan...

I'm sure like any charitable organization in the US they send out requests everywhere. And everyone just ignores em, except when they send those really nice return address stickers and you feel guilty about not giving any money.
So just like that + murder and jihad.

Bush had a secret meeting with a Queda agent a couple months before 9/11. (supposed) Topic? Ending the racial profiling of arabs on flights in the US. I'm sure that turned into a big electoral loser as an issue in a hurry.
Anyway, if all that you have to do to be 'linked' to a country or organization is have someone from your governement meet with someone in their organization, then every country everywhere is strongly linked to every other country and every terrorist organization. You can six degrees Michael Moore to Kevin Bacon but that doesn't mean they are gay lovers (doesn't mean they aren't either).

Fox News you say? Every opinion I've seen/heard/read (starting with a fairly unanimous panning on Newsnight Review at Cannes, which is pretty damn rare) has said the opposite.

:/
off the top of google for 'review fahrenheit 911'
chi sun-times article title: "Less is Moore in subdued, effective '9/11' "
time magazine subtitle: "Controversy aside, the new Michael Moore film is a fine documentary"
ny post didn't like it. in other news, the republican party may endorse bush this year.
bbc sort of a 'we don't trust michael moore farther than we can throw him, which isn't very far given that he's a fat american slob, but the movie is fine' or "But the movie's conclusions - true or otherwise - and highly emotional interviews with bereaved parents and injured soldiers will have a big impact on audiences around the world."
washington post "To watch this movie yourself is to realize with dawning appreciation that the director of "Bowling for Columbine" has finally learned to put his movie where his mouth is."
Fox News is up there too. "It turns out to be a really brilliant piece of work, and a film that members of all political parties should see without fail.
As much as some might try to marginalize this film as a screed against President George Bush, "F9/11" — as we saw last night — is a tribute to patriotism, to the American sense of duty — and at the same time a indictment of stupidity and avarice."
movie poop shoot wtf is movie poop shoot? Anyway "This two-hour documentary is blistering, alarming, disturbing, darkly funny, and -- this really surprised me -- deeply touching."
and there's a reuters review near the top, but the applet wouldn't work for me. and a whole bunch of internet nobodies saying random things.
ebert gave the , but his wasn't toward the upper google.

Yes.....and the CIA trained, armed and funded Bin Laden and his followers.
The CIA met with the Taliban in Afganistan, the U.S. Gov held meetings with the Taliban in the late 90's and early 00's.
The U.S. armed and funded Saddam Hussain's Iraq and the pre-fundamentalist Iran.
Does this mean that the U.S. supported, helped or funded acts of terrorism committed by these people?

Re: lol, Okay George
Wow maybe Bush has been reading Psychology magazines.
Apparently if, for example, you wanted to push in the front of the queue you are 5 times more likely to be allowed if you give a reason. Even if it's "Can I push in front of you because I want to get to the front quicker".
He's still an idiot though.
I bought a great cd the other day called "Rock against Bush" only £10 from Virgin, has loads of bands like NOFX, Offspring, Less than Jake, Anti-Flag etc on it. The DVD that comes with it is cool too...

yeh and the Anti-flag one is the one that goes "Turncoat, Killer, Liar, Thief!"
There's a bad religion one (but I don't like it) and another that I can't recall.
There's a very funny clip from some comedian in america (boos from the back of the crowd!) some interesting documentaries and some funny 30 second anti-bush adverts.

I like both of those songs (I had lyrics from the NOFX in my signature for a while).
I have some serious reservations with the Punk Voter concept, but I obviously like the idea of putting some politics back into punk, even if it's in a faggy reformist way (at first).

Don't some of their albums still say "Don't pay more than 10 bucks for this album" (or similar)?

Re: lol, Okay George
When I saw NOFX live at Reading the other year they expressed their annoyance that punk wasn't about politics any more as that was what it was originally intended to be about. They also said that Punk wasn't for people under 21.
I have to say I appreciate punk a lot more since turning 21 than I did before... Maybe it's just more relevant.
The album sleave also has some amusing stuff in it too, a nice rant from Fat Mike included.
Havent seen the "don't pay more than £10" ever...

I think that's slightly unfair of them, (I don't even know how old they are, but they started 20+ years ago). I mean, you can work, pay taxes and be killed in a pointless war when you're 16 - it seems a bit unjust to say you can't have any insight. They mainly just seem to say it to piss of the audience. (At Brixton they said a similar thing and almost immediately someone threw a bottle at Mike's head).
But I mean, people have a political insight at any age. People have insulted Anti-Flag as "politics for 12 year olds". If I was Anti-Flag I wouldn't be insulted, it's good they're getting through to people of any age.
Then again, I've only met two lots of people into punk, either 16-18 or over 30.

I think they were just annoyed at kids thinking they're punk because they like Busted and the equivalent shit american bands.
I know what you're saying though...
