Stargate
When did they turn one of my favorite TV-shows into the search for the holy grail, with dragons and Merlin and crap like that? This whole season is horrible, just like the last one. They should have ended the show after season 8 and not tried to start all over again, and that with the cast of Farscape, of all shows!!

Re: Stargate
i actually dont mind it, as for the holy grail, there following one of the mythic figures from days past, just like they were in the past 8 seasons but instead of trying to kill them they are trying to find them so they can help them. Merlin isnt his real name, it was a name he took to walk amongst the people of the medival period, and i think that there is nothing wrong with casting *one* person from farscape, so a bit unfair saying they have started again with the cast of farscape.

Claudia Black and Ben Browder are both regulars in Season 10 of SG-1 and were both in Farscape.

Claudia Black showed up in Season 8 (Episode - "Prometheus Unbound") well before Ben Browder showed up in the first episode of Season 9.

Yeah I know. But they're both regulars in Season 10. (I believe Black was only a credited regular in S10, although of course Browder achieved this in S9).

Re: Stargate
I don't remember if she was in opening credits in 9, but she might have been owing to the fact she was in a large portion of the episodes and they knew she'd be back for season 10.

I am curious to as how they'll get rid of the Ori after only 2 seasons who're new and pose a bigger threat than the Goa'uld which took them 8 years to get rid of.

The only Firefly character I know of being in SG-1 was Adam Baldwin was in the episode they killed off Dr. Frasier.

Re: Stargate
Has it run on too long whilst losing its major characters kind of like the X-Files?

They only lost 2 main characters in Richard Dean Anderson and Don Davis. Although they have Michael Shanks making up for the lost wit of Richard Dean Anderson.

True, Stargate will never be the same without Richard Dean Anderson in it, he was the comedy value of the whole program.

The latest episodes have shown that there's a weapon available to them that they need to obtain and master. The various threads (e.g. the Ancients' standard refusal to intervene) are slowly being sewn together into the climax of the series (which is only 9 episodes away). They've got a plan - I doubt that the Ori were originally going to be defeated so quickly when they were first created as the new big enemy, but that's what happens when a series gets cancelled.

The Ori will not be defeated at the end of this Season. They're saving that for the couple of straight-to-tv/dvd movies that they're going to be making

I was very careful not to be too specific in what I said. Both the USA and UK are halfway through Series 10, so I don't think I really spoiled very much for regular viewers. I'm not sure what you meant by your April reference?

Sci-Fi, the channel that shows the Stargate series in the US isn't starting the second half of the season until April, at least according to the 'teaser' commercial on the website. Just follow this link, and then click on the 'play video' link on the right side under where it says 'New Episodes Coming in 2007'.

Re: Stargate
That explains things then. They're currently showing on Sky One in the UK, easy to obtain if you want to jt25man.
I'm just suprised that they aren't showing in the USA at the same time. The series will end by the time it restarts your side of the pond!

Re: Stargate
OK i admit that the merlin storyline had me going WTF!!!! at the start .. but following it through it does make 1, sense and 2, a good plot line, so give it some time and patience those who havent watched it.
Claudia Blacks Character annoyed the crap outa me at 1st - which i see in hindsight is a good thing, because it destroyed her character in my mind from seeing her in farscape, Ben Bovers is basically the same, so hes having problems settling in as a character within the SG for me.
I've not watched much firefly so thats not an issue for me.
The Ori as the villians are much the same as the Go'auld (or however u spell it), they are just less connected into mythology in human terms than the Egyptions gods were, and as such .. we will have issues on how we would beat them in our own minds, because in RL they are not part of a dead civilisation.
A brave step for the SG script writers to move onto an enemy that is barely part of Human mythology, which is a plot line they have used for around 8 seasons beacuse were more comfortable with looking at a dead enemy or friend.

I don't think they've shown the simultaneously for the past four years. Before Xmas the States are about a month and a half ahead, they go for their mid-season break around October/November. The UK starts late but only loses a week or two to Christmas, and restarts much earlier so that by the time you hit the new year, Sky One's already caught up and the States lag behind by a few eps. Admittedly I don't think they've started as late as April before but hey.

If you're going to reference something like Lord of the Rings by saying 'the Gandalf guy', I almost feel pity for you.
As for whether or not Sir Ian McKellan would make a good Merlin, you'd probably be right, eccentric old men seems to be his style lately with playing Magneto on X-Men as well. He probably would've been very good at playing Dumbledore for the Harry Potter series too. Hopefully he'll be returing in 'The Hobbit' and the sequal which is supposedly set between 'The Hobbit' and 'Lord of the Rings', which they haven't started shooting yet because of some foul lawsuit between New Line and Peter Jackson, and have already announced they've given up on him directing the movie.
Edit: 'The Hobbit' stuff is really better suited for it's own thread than this one.

I'd rather you were a patheticly weak man who had to complain about his wife and her friend behind her back on an internet forum. particularly when most of that forums posters know as well as you do that she's going to be sleeping around with them and you're just the loser she married for money.
It'd also be super if you weren't very bright.

Re: Stargate
someone posted this in another forum:
'HBO has acquired the rights to turn George R.R. Martin's bestselling fantasy series "A Song of Fire and Ice" into a dramatic series to be written and exec produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
"Fire" is the first TV project for Benioff ("Troy") and Weiss ("Halo") and will shoot in Europe or New Zealand. Benioff and Weiss will write every episode of each season together save one, which the author (a former TV writer) will script.
The series will begin with the 1996 first book, "A Game of Thrones," and the intention is for each novel (they average 1,000 pages each) to fuel a season's worth of episodes. Martin has nearly finished the fifth installment, but won't complete the seven-book cycle until 2011.
The author will co-exec produce the series along with Management 360's Guymon Casady and Created By's Vince Gerardis.
Martin's series has drawn comparisons to J.R.R. Tolkien, because both are period epics set in imagined lands. But Martin has eschewed Tolkien's good-vs.-evil theme in favor of flawed characters from seven noble families.
The book has a decidedly adult bent, with sex and violence comparable to series like "Rome" and "Deadwood."
"They tried for 50 years to make 'Lord of the Rings' as one movie before Peter Jackson found success making three," Martin said. "My books are bigger and more complicated, and would require 18 movies. Otherwise, you'd have to choose one or two characters." ' (...)
I don't know where he has that information from (didnt search iether), but it certainly sounds great.
