Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected President of the United States four times, even though he was a paralyzed victim of polio. The American people were aware that the President was lame from polio, but they were never informed of the extent of his disability. This was FDR’s “splendid deception”. To bad a stadium full of people watched him fall on his crippled ass when giving a speech. Everyone knew, it was just something you didn't talk about in desperate times cause he needed to look strong.

No law was made till after FDR limiting terms to two. Before that, it was a precedent followed by everyone that George Washington set that FDR broke.
