RealOne player - heap of shit
Any way to stop the excessive amount of popups etc?

Re: RealOne player - heap of shit
I can vaguely remember RealPlayer's formats being open source or something.
Perhaps there is a free player that can do what RealOne does, but pop-up less.
I could have been dreaming though,

Don't install the shit popup bit, or activate it at install. Can't remember which.
I have it installed, I don't get popups.

Re: RealOne player - heap of shit
i think Ultraplayer might be able to play Real stuff. there is also a codec out there somewhere, try google.
if you must use RealOne there is an option buried somewhere to turn the damn things off. (the 'messenger service')

Re: RealOne player - heap of shit
I haven't noticed any pop ups.
Though what does annoy me is all those annoying options you have to switch off during installation. Like "Place Desktop shortcut", "Launch Jukebox on startup" and "Make default player for every file type known to man".
And it keeps on insisting on telling you what an amazing player it is when it is in fact ten times worse than Windows Media Player. It can't even do full screen!

I belive that they were going to release a player with the wmf/asf files being open sourced but not their own. Of course i could of read wrong.

Re: RealOne player - heap of shit
At least RealMedia and RealVideo used to be (and maybe still are) the best formats you could get keeping in my quality per size ratio. I don't mean high-res dvd-rip movie-codecs, but the "normal" stuff.
Downloaded Futurama Episodes back in R4-Time (beginning of 2001), 35MB an episode (22min). Tried to compress it with DivX and VBR MP3 to 50MB, but the result was worse.
Really, for _small_ file sizes, RealMedia quality was ace. Also, you didn't need as much cpu power for playback.
To make your point: The Player itself sucks though...
