it's bleedin' obvious why minority associations need to exist, it's not at all clear why this causcasian club needs to exist.
i disagree with that slavery comment for half a dozen reasons, but i don't think it's fair to let the few vocal morons who the beeb choose to quote characterise racial relations - which seems to me implicit in some of your posts.

Also, may I point out that many Africans co-operated with the slavers (many of which weren't white but were from the middle east) and sold their own people. You don't hear much about that sort of thing do you?

That would justify a race relations club. These seem to be clubs that promote the culture of a particular race. (I'm gonna give the quote marks a rest in this post).

I always write or check 'Other' on those forms, just to keep them guessing. Ditto for religion (unless I'm feeling surly--then I go with Druid).

On a slightly different point why in the uk when you have a form for race to fill in (tick which you are) are 'white' and 'irish' separate?

when people are victimised because of their race, religion, sexuality etc it's fair enough they can have a support group. When there is no need for such a thing - whites, straight people, protestants, whatever - it is almost invariably just spite and prejudice trying to find a good excuse. Case in point: what's implied by 'learning about white history'? Isn't that pretty much the entirety of any school's history syllabus?

The article does say the girl herself has herself been racially insulted in the past, so technically she is "victimised" herself. Not that it matters, right to free association, etc as Nod said.
Also, it's dumb to say that (say) a poor white person is somehow a member of the ruling class, or that an African protestant is privilidged in some abstract sense.
However, the name should be the White Club (or White Identity Club, or 'People of European Descent' or something, since the term 'Caucasian' is a stupid one based on racist mythology.

MOBO describes a genre of music, that can i suppose be termed 'urban' as it is in the US. I personally dont have a problem with it being called the MOBOs as omg white people can actually win it. If you're fussed to the point of having your skin crawl just start a petition to rename the Classical Brits the MOWOs.
And as for the club thing i personally dont see the point in the 'dominant' culture needing to form groups* but as dante said i dont presume that 'white' people cant be in a minority and form groups to explore their heritage or to try and organise against discrimination, quite a few of the expat communities around the world and from my experience in kenya do exactly that. I'd probably advice her to form a club for teenagers who are three times the size and uglier than their (broadly speaking) attractive mothers.
Its also quite amusing (and frankly weird) how upset some of you have become because of one quote by a black person that you dont agree with, and at the analytical generalisations made to black people as a whole from that quote, ive disagreed with many black people and ive yet to be called racist because of it. But hey must be me im weird like that.
