Internet without phoneline?
Well your all 1337 computer experts and i know nothing so be nice and help me please.
Next year I am uni accomodation that does not have a phoneline meaning no internet access this cannot be allowed so what options do i have.
Is there someway I can get remote internet access from my PC thats fast and reliable, if yes then HOW? I have been working for ages and saved up a bit of money so cost should not be to much of a problem.
Hope you can help.

You can use a mobile phone to connect your PC to the net.
Be slow as feck and exspensive.

I had to put up with this crap for 3 years.
If you do use this, you can forget about downloading more than 1 pic in five minutes.

look at Wi-Fi.
i believe some have a range of around 115metres indoor and 500 outdoor
some are 300 foot etc
altho
lets face it it probably wont be far enough.
theres also the possiblity of getting an expensive top of the range wireless phone
and using the 'satellite' handset to connect across the road.
its just a mobile for the house. most houses have em now. the expensive ones are high range etc
the phone i have at home works when im half way odwn the street and still communicates with the base unit.
possibly rig up a device to utilise this?

I don't know where u are located, so this might not help. But if you can install a dish, u could get StarBand or direct PC. Both are satellite internet and are 2-way, so you don't need a phone line. Down side is, you can forget playing multiplayer games, because of the lag time.

tell him you pay for it and when you leave he will can ask for more rent.
if he doesn't comply you should work on your people skills.

you could set up a wireless lan with the people across the street
its simple enough, other options are ask landlord nicely, and offer to forfeit deposit

I fail to see why there wouldn't be a phone line in the house. Theres like, a phone line in every house, you just have to have it connected.

get a better house then, itn't it obvious? one of my prerequisites for choosing a flat was that it had Broadband.

I am staying with my seven best friends and I am the only who spends a lot of time on the internet. When choosing this house we had more important considerations such as rent and proximety to important things, pubs, cluibs, friends and uni.

You could also try getting a ;aptop that has a data card.
Something like a Sierra Wireless card. You could then connect to a mobile networks GPRS. It can be expensive though as although it can in theory be connected all the time, you are charged by how much data you download.

The vast majority of homes have a phoneline, as someone has already noted. I mean, what family sized home could have done without a phone before mobiles?
There's probably an ancient phone connection somewhere, just need to activate it. The landlord probably just doesn't want you drilling through exterior walls to install cable, etc.
Alternately, just install whatever you like anyway. Most private landlords screw you out of the deposit anyway, and unless he lives nearby or checks the place regularly (rare) he probably won't notice until you leave.

Oh. So you don't mean non-phoneline internet, you non-line internet aka wireless internet?
Of which there are a few options, the most common being phoning up trough a mobile, radio link to somewhere there IS a cable, or a satelite hookup

Get them to buy a linksys Wireless router. Set up a shared internet connection, and buy a wireless network card.
Fun for everyone.
Costly though (router is $300, cards run at about $100)

I didn't even know there were houses these days without phone lines, unless it's in the mountains somewhere. I could probably live in a cardboard box here and get broadband. Are they forcing you to live in a place that old/cheap? I can't see how the landlord would get any residents otherwise...did you check for electricity access?
Edit: In attempt to make this a useful post, check out wireless routers, I've got one for like $150 and it's worked great....but then, my router is currently sitting on top of the cable modem on top of my PC. Get a measuring stick and find out how far away he is.

Mobile Connect card from Vodafone, only downside is they're a bunch of wankers that stick you with per megabyte charges so it will probably cost you a couple of hundred a month.
