I thought Hawking revised his original theory that information is completely lost in a black hole and came up with some idea about it disappearing in this universe but still being present in any parallel universes that didnt have black holes, so the information was not lost thus not breaking one of the laws of physics that states information cannot be lost. Also, he didnt demonstrate it he just came up with an idea from what little i know and not too many people were impressed with it.
Personally i think the theory about information being smudged across the event horizon sounds better than Hawkings ideas but i'm no physicist.

Basically he said he'd decided that information about what was pulled into the black hole can be found, but failed to elaborate on it, it seems.
Perhaps he did so to his colleagues and us mear mortals will just not understand. Actually I know I won't.
Personally I think these people get into physics for the bets. He bet Kip Thorne 4 years subscription to Penthouse on another subject.

1 Light year = 6,000,000,000,000 miles
Cloud = 10,000,000 miles wide
Thus, angle covered by cloud as viewed from Earth = (tan^-1 5,000,000/6,000,000,000,000) * 2
=tan^-1 (0.000000833) * 2 = 0.0000955 degrees.
It's a bit small.

Yes, i looked there. And shuddered. It makes The Sun's storys look worthwhile and intellectual.
I was thinking it might be something interesting and some major problem that might cause the world to do something - I thought the world was ending or whatever in 2012, not 2006 too. Though the bible code is really bad. I tried to read one of the books, and gave up in disgust. I could predict the future just as "accurately" by studying random fiction books.

Well, it had "code" in it. I thought it might be interesting. I haven't touched it more than about once. Maybe it was the apocylapse code. It was some rubbish involving bits of the bible anyway, with a few random people making amazing discoverys which predicted things that happened in the past and would happen in the future. And it involved lots of dodgey numerology. "Well, it adds up to 6, but that includes vowels, and is in Hebrew. BUT if we change languages, subtract vowels and read it back to front, WE GET THE RIGHT ANSWER! It shows Hitler is the devil. How clear a prediction is that?"
