Mobile phone unlocking
Ok. My contract with Vodafone will be up for renewal soon, which means a new phone for me, which in turn means offloading the current one on ebay for extra moolah.
However, Vodafone lock their phones to their sims only, so I need to get it unlocked first for maximum resale value. Vodafone will of course do it for an extortionate charge, and despite Loughborough having a market 2 days a week, I've been unable to find a man in a van offering such services.
This leaves online unlocking services.
I'm aware of a couple, I'm just trying to find the best price really. Does anyone else have any experience or know of any? If it matters, the phone in question is a Sony Ericsson S700i.
Go go gadget intarweb!

Re: Mobile phone unlocking
If they charge more than £10, it's a rip-off - I can't remember the site I used but I sent off my IMEI no. and I received some beep thing, told to switch it off and turn it back-on again and it was unlocked.

Re: Mobile phone unlocking
I thought it was only orange that locked there sims to the phones etc. I have a vodafone and orange phone, I can use my orange chip in my vodafone phone but not the other way round (voda in orange) check it out before you get it unblocked.

Re: Mobile phone unlocking
I did, and it doesn't work. Mine was an online contract deal, don't know if that makes any difference, but either way it's locked down.

Re: Mobile phone unlocking
Here in Ireland there was a Communications Regulator ruling that made it against the law for mobile phone companies to charge large fees for unlocking, or even any fees at all for non-new phones.
Perhaps the UK has something simlar?

Re: Mobile phone unlocking
Well if the phone was in bits and you rebuilt it you may have some bits missing.

Re: Mobile phone unlocking
I would suggest a hammer as the required unlocking device, but there's probably people who disagree with me.
Around here in the Netherlands, it's illegal for a mobile phone to be sim-locked. At the very least for pre-paid phones, but I think it's for all phones.
