note the 30 minute break. But there we go. I was going to take a break at somewhere around the M50, but decided to just go all the way.

Re: Today I drove 4 Hours Straight
Incidently. Have you ever driven from the midlands to Aberystwyth.....taking the mountain road.....on a bad day.....
That drive took me 5hours and it was solid concentration incase i drove off a cliff.
I took the mountain road by mistake the first time i drove home and it was winter....and there was dense fog......so i couldnt see more than 1yard in front of me..
oh happy days.

Re: Today I drove 4 Hours Straight
I drove to the top of the street and played Golf on a coastal, mountainside course in a force 3 gale. Then i drove to the pub and watched a couple of boring 0-0 draws (Rangers & Spurs matches). Then i drove to MacDonalds and had some dinner and i drove home and had a shower.

Four hours doesn't even get you across North Dakota (and you really don't want to be in North Dakota).

Re: Today I drove 4 Hours Straight
I've been in London all weekend... Bloody tubes and stuff... took me 2 and a half hours to get into London from North West London.
Well, it was worth it, met a very very nice Aussie girl and spent the day getting drunk and stoned at Brick Lane carnival. Shame nothing happened between me and her but she was sooo nice. Good day.
my cousins kid woke me up 3 mornings running at 8am but hey...
Nice drive back to Nottingham today. not too far...
EDIT Oh and try a bloody 11 hour overnight bus-trip from Zagreb to Dubrovnik. Only stopping in Split (when you've just gone to sleep) to make you change buses.

Re: Today I drove 4 Hours Straight
i dont drive...
it took me 9 hours to get from shildon to chessington (south west london) the other day. which was quite good time considering a lot of it was on the coach.
but i did no work whatsoever during it and it cost less than the petrol money for the real trip would have done...
ahah!

Re: Today I drove 4 Hours Straight
I did 11 hours in an old overladen Astra going from Calais to the west coast of France. It was even worse on the way back with an extra person and eight cases of beer on top of our outgoing load. That was a sweaty experience.

Yah a 4 hour drive in canada is like driving to your local supermarket in the UK.
Seriously after living here a while I realise that we really OVERCOMPLAIN about commuting and travelling distances in the UK.

You've got to feel sorry for the guy for having to be in Wythenshawe in the first place though :|
P.S You were less than 3 miles away from me, and didn't even say hi
P.P.S There is a big airport in between my house and Wythenshawe, don't worry children!

Re: Today I drove 4 Hours Straight
what people dont realise is this :
If petrol was dirty cheap
and you could get insured on big engines for bugger all
And there was a plethora of large comfy cars that handle like shit but give you a ride like your on a cloud
People would drive more.
and longer distances.
however
wed also be called the United States.

Re: Today I drove 4 Hours Straight
What you fail to point out, though, JJ, is that many Americans, especially the ones that live in the West and Midwest, have to drive long distances just to get to, well, anywhere.
I mean, imagine living in South Dakota. I know it's hard, and painful, but just try. It's got to be hundreds of miles to even get to ****ing civilisation, nevermind a town or city of more than 15,000 people.

Got on Met line from Eastcote. Got to some random place between wembley park and finchley then the train stopped because of signal failure. No idea where the hell I was so I got a bus that looked like it was going somewhere important and then got off and got on the Bakerloo line from Wembley central to Baker Street then got on the Hammersmith and city line to Liverpool street then got a bus to Shoreditch where I was meeting my friend.
Ok so technically I was outside 'London' and going slightly outside central London but still.
Oh and it probably would have taken longer to walk... but not by much.

Perhaps this is true. Mabye we should change 'taco' to 'high quality, well-cooked food.'

I suspect the people in South Dakota don't drive all that much, at least compared to the national average. I mean, if you chose to live in South Dakota then you've pretty much resigned yourself to living without civilization in the first place (or you're content to watch it via a satellite dish).
I live in the Midwest and I don't drive much at all. Of course, I Iive in a large city and can walk to the nearest taco.
The premier driving culture in the US is in California, where astronomical real estate prices force many people to drive several hours just to commute to and from work.
