What?
Then you can't have been there. ever.
Atleast half the pizza joints claim to sell Italian pizza, and all of them are staffed by spanish-speaking latinos.

i'm sure it is impressive
but i have no doubt that the landscape is too dry to english (or even irish) eyes
we need green, not dust and sand

Maine, Washington, Oregon, any windward portion of Hawai'i, Vermont, in fact the entire Great Lakes and New England regions are as wonderfully verdant and depressingly soggy as any place in the UK.

While not Citzen Cain's inspiration's doings, the London Bridge of ol' fame sits nicely in a dusty town in Arizona.

Something horrific and at the same time poetic about that.

You could be an Englishman in New York.
No wait, a New Yorker in London, or Yorkshire, or wherever the hell you are.

The area from Santa Barbar to San Luis Obispo is indeed dry at this time of the year. However, from San Luis Obispo to Carmel the area is covered with evergreen trees. The road often winds hundreds of feet above the ocean, cllinging to cliff faces. It is always green. It is called the Big Sur and is generally regarded as one of the most beautiful drives in the states if not the world. It really is worth the trip and Carmel is charming and Monterrey is also interesting. Plenty of wonderful places to eat.

Re: So I am going to America...
you pitching for a job with the tourist board?
evergreen trees
what of the mighty oak? the gentle ash? the noble plane? the gentle rolling hills of verdunt pasture. the quiet gardens full of english roses ooooohhh
This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England!
sorry.
I think i got a little carried away there.
