Getting rid of buggered computers
I have a PC, and I want to get rid of it, and get a new one.
However.
Every seven or eight months or so it decides it won't load windows, and does the 'Data Error Reading Drive C' thing, neccesitating a complete format.
Now, is there anything I can actually do with this thing, I.E, will there be anyone who will actually want to buy it/bits of it from me in this condition, or is it just scrap?

I don't know how much that would be, but it would be expensive, I'd wager.

Couldn't I just take it all somewhere, and tell them that it was kaputski? How would it even out financially if I did that as opposed to buying a new HD beforehand?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Getting rid of buggered computers
It's not actually worth selling a pc that old.
You can build a much better one for about £200.
[edit]
It's always nice looking in the classifieds at, say, sainsbury's at the people who think that because it cost £2000 four years ago, it should cost £2000 now.

It's four years old, so I suppose I'm just being slightly insane.
I'm going to sell the monitor though. \0/

I'd say 200 quid is a pretty good price. Though I'd have to know the rest of the specs, especially the size of the monitor.

If it's 17", I'll buy the monitor on it's own for some price or another.
Edit:
17" or larger that is. Already have 2 15" lying around.

Format and give it to a school.
That's what i did with my old computer, they'll be happy and you'll feel all warm and fuzzy that you helped school kids surf for pr0n.

Your best bet is to stash it somewhere and then when someone happens to ask if you have a component they need, go and raid it.
I bits and bobs from 2 or 3 old PCs in the loft (the cases aren't worth keeping, they go to the skip). I even managed to flog someone a 100 mb harddrive for £15 the other day. Not a fortune I know, but it covers a few drinks.

I've sold the HD and all related bits.
The monitor, the mouse and the keyboard are all up for grabs.
The monitor is huge, btw. It is the size of a large child.
