gay rights
[rant]
I was browsing through the BBC website, reading up on the new gay rights thingy being passed to give gays the same rights as married couples when it comes to pensions etc. etc.
AND it had a talking point thing 'have your say' and all that jazz. I thought I'd read it to find some comment made, obviously, by a 76 year old man who has voted Conservative all his life. AND LOOK I FOUND SOME
Quote:
I really wonder why anyone should bother getting married at all if they will legally be treated as if they are married. I see this as an attack on families: the Labour Party hates the institution of marriage, and would prefer the State to be responsible for raising children. This idea if implemented will cause enormous social damage.
|
Sorry, but this made me laugh. Labour hate marriage? No, they just want everybody to have equal rights, that doesn't strike me as particulalry bad. Tony Blair clearly hates marriage, which is probably true seeing as he is married to Cherie.
Quote:
Most of the gay blokes whom I have met and know just sleep around and aren't interested in a long term relationship. I have been with my girlfriend for over 3 years which I think is a long time; so am I going to get the same rights as a gay "couple" who have been together 6 months?
|
How many gay people does he know? Probably about 1 who is camper than Dale Winton and Graham Norton put together. People can get married after 1 day if they feel like it, and I don't think the gays he is 'referring' to will want to use these new rights anyway. Pillock.
Quote:
One of the things God set up as part of how society works is the family unit. This, Biblically, consists of a man and woman committed to each other in a life-long and monogamous marriage. The Labour party have consistently challenged and undermined this family unit. I shall not vote labour again; I prefer to stick with the Maker's instructions, rather than the opinion of our country's leaders.
|
Uh oh a relgiious person referring to a book with so many contradictions it should be burnt along with Harry Potter and Jamie Oliver books.
Quote:
I completely fail to see why the rest of society should endorse their behaviour.
|
'Homophobe'
Quote:
What an insult to the true meaning of marriage. This nation's standards are being lost.
|
What's are these standards being lost? Years of discrimination against people who are different? we should keep those. He also fails to understand that this isn't marriage, it's more to do with legal rights. Dumbass.

It clearly does go against the meaning of marriage. Marriage is a religious vow between a man and a woman.

it's not about marriage. it's just about legal rights for gay couples.
and marriage is more about that, and even though what you say is true it doesn't mean that it can't be changed to be more modern. I am uncomfortable living in a society where people still believe in archaic principles and ideas

k.
in terms of the pension thing, their should obviously be some type of legal documentation about your relationship.
anything else is just crazy talk.

i'd rather you created a new word/phrase that was inclusive of both hetero and homo- unions than muddled the definition of an existing word that has deep religious connotations.
Quote:
Under the plans, gay couples will not be entitled to a "marriage" ceremony, but will be able to sign an official document at a register office in front of the registrar and two witnesses.
|
well that's all fine and good, but it should be available to heterosexuals too.

I'm fundamentally against state-provided pensions. Now I remember why.
PS God hates everything and everyone.

yeah, but this law is crap because hetrosexual couples just living together don't get the same rights as gays now. this is a obvious half measure, because the gov don't want to let gays marry.
all homosexuals will burn in hell anyway, because the bible says so.

you would think that wouldn't you?
Quote:
New rights for gays
Gays now automatically get into heaven
Gays will be awarded the same religious rights as heterosexuals under plans outlined by God.
This will include entry and the permanent right to stay in paradise, assuming all paperwork is properly filed on time.
However, the changes have been criticised by religious leaders across the spectrum, who complain that heterosexuals are being discriminated against.
Heterosexual couples will not be eligible for the registration scheme, a decision attacked by veteran gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell.
Mr Tatchell said: "It is divisive, heterophobic and discriminatory to exclude heterosexuals," he said.
A gay man's experience
"Currently the God treats us as sinners; I got sent to hell and burned in anguish for thousands of years. It was...hell I guess."
God says that heterosexuals are being excluded from the plan because they have the option of living without sin.
"Being gay means being sinful and wicked no matter what else you do in life," noted God. "The rest of you have the option of being good. And I highly suggest you take it" added God, in his don't-****-with-me voice.
While the consultation paper does not use the term "gay heaven", the new paradise seems to be designed to be as close to the real heaven as possible.
'Overdue'
Whether or not gays already burning in hell will be remitted to the new paradise is still in question. In addition, some gays presently in eternal torment are demanding not only remittance to the new paradise, but compensation for their eons of pain.
Overall though, gays are happy with the progress made. Ben Summerskill, chief executive of gay rights group Stonewall, said he was delighted with the plans, which were "long overdue".
A register for gays wanting to get into heaven and set up by St. Peter has already signed over 30,000 fags.
