So I'm working away on the pc...
...when UPS arrive.
Funny - I don't remember ordering anything via UPS given the hideous ammounts they charge, and I'm fairly sure my parents wouldn't either.
Anyhow, I open the door to the smartly dressed UPS guy, and sign for a large parcel which, bizzarely, is addressed to me.
30 seconds later, the parcel is open and I'm slightly bemused to discover that some company I've never heard of (or at least, I don't remember ordering anything from them ever) has sent me 120 type D batteries (you know, the big fat ones that go in torches and stuff), 4 cans of red gloss spraypaint, and a wallpaper stripper.
Normally I wouldn't comment about such a generous freebee, but I'm slightly confused about how they got hold of my address...

No invoice in the box.
A quick check of online banking status reveals no related transactions on any of my debit or credit cards that I use for stuff like this.
Oh well, the batteries will be useful.
Not sure what to do with 4 x 500ml cans of red spray paint, and I have no immediate use for a wallpaper stripper.
Ebay anyone?

120 Type 'D' is about 200VDC in parallel, connect this to wallpaper stripper, ask the wife to do some DIY and wait for the fun and fireworks to begin.
Give the cans of red paint to Snurx, he can go paint some trains or something equally stupid.

I feel that you got something against me today, old man.
Is it beacause you're too old to go paint 'dem trains? IS IT?

If you keep them for a certain amount of time and they don't collect them, they become yours.

1) It was addressed to him.
2) How exactly are they illegally acquired?

If I recall correctly it's 30 days if you write to the company, 3 months otherwise. I heard somewhere that this may have changed though.
It can call be found under the Unsolicited Goods Act.

Since when have you not been allowed to open other peoples mail?
Anything that gets posted through my letterbox i consider 'fair game'.
The amount of wrongly delivered post i receive makes me wonder at the number of letters of mine other people have gotten by mistake and then not bothered to forward to me THE BASTARDS!

Man, I get probably 10 letters a week for the previous residents of this apartment (we moved in May), I just give it to the apartment folks but if I wanted I could be reading their bank statements and everything. And judging by the number of names I've seen (this apartment only holds 2, maybe 3 if one's a kid, I've seen at least 4 completely different names) I'm even getting mail for the residents before those residents.
Of course, the name on it isn't mine so it probably would be illegal, but who would know?
