... that part with the French swearing dude... this Merovingian... When that woman eats that dessert, doesn't that look like it could have directly come out of a cheap erotic movie? I mean... seriously... They could have come up with something better. That scene is about totally unnescesary (that and the fighting part with the oracles "bodyguard").

I found it indeed a poor film. The godlike powers of Neo removed a lot of the excitement of the movie, and the lack of rules (ie: physical laws) inside the matrix was making it look like a 10 year old threw the story together and added some nice feature whenever the "world" didn't match the script (ie: instant travel to other locations through doors. Or Neo flying around at light speeds, saving the day).
Also, this Morpheus figure and his speeches... really... dragging and repetative.

The only thing I really liked were the twins. They had a nice scary power that fitted in the "world" of the matrix and the highway action scene was quite good, although it dragged a bit near the end when they kept hopping all over the place.

It just shows that the W brothers aren't as great as people have been saying.

The Matrix had a lot of gimmickary going for it, and it also had a lot more guns. Guns are easier to make fight scenes with.

I think the Matrix was quite good. It put down a whole new world in a rather realistic sence. I could actually believe the story and be absorbed in it.
Cons of the original matrix again were the whole philosophy and the time spent philosophing (sp?) about everything, but these scenes were rather rare in the original and not as annoying.
Reloaded had a number of scenes that pulled you right back into your seat, out of the movie, breaking the illusion...
When that woman ate that desert and the "greenish zoom" on her privates I thought to myself: "riiiiight, that was like totally unnescesary... this could be a porn movie".
Another scene that broke the illusion: mass dance in that cave after Morpheus' (dragging) speech. That was just the right time to get out of your seat and take a piss.

For me (and many others) it's not the thrilling action sequences or amazing FX that makes or breaks the movie. It's the ability to keep one in the illusion of the movie... to have the people who watch it be absorbed in the movie... not to see it, but to live it.
Special effects can make up a lot, but not everything.
Believe it or not... I loved "waterworld" (oops, there goes my credibility). I even held my breath when this waterman dived under water. I lived that movie.

Reloaded broke the illusion too often, making it a poor movie in my opinion.

A movie can be measured by how many fight scenes it has, not the length and/or quality of them? Isn't there more than 3 anyway, depending on what you count as a "fight" scene? How many fight scenes are there in Terminator 2?

And yes, poor philosophy is what makes an action movie. From the dodgy paedophilia of Leon to the meaningless and paradoxical 'No fate but what we make' of Terminator.

matrix reloaded dragged out a little too much and expectations were way too high. Nonetheless it was a good film and the fight scenes were good (with the exception of Neo swinging round on that **** **** **** wanker **** ****ing **** pole for more than 1/10 of a second...

Matrix Was a good film imo

Matrix Reloaded wasn't really that good...
but I think it was because I had high expectations due to what the first film left:

The third one should be really good, :reloaded ended with neo unconcious, so as for it not being exciting because of his super powers who knows....

The expectations for Reloaded were unecessarily high, considering the fact that The Matrix wasn't very good anyway.

I probably liked Reloaded more than the Matrix fanboys, since my expectations were low.

It's not the conversation that was the problem. It was that juvenile zoom in on her crotch. The entire theater had an expression of 'well, I'll bear thru this for the sake of the movie'. Just like the dance scene. And the Architecht.


I personnally enjoyed Reloaded - saw it twice in theaters. But it did have it's moments...

Let's face it, Reloaded was alwasy going to be less of a 'OMG' movie because the original had already done that part.

There are no surprises in Reloaded until we get to the final half hour (apart from Mr Smith becoming essentially human in whatever 'layer' of the Matrix everyone believes themselves to be in')

That said, as a film and not being analysed like some sort of O level English Lit book, I loved it. I could quite happily go and see the film another few times, simply because, as a film, it's bloody good.

The trouble always comes when people decide what's going on beforehand and the storyline doesn't match it.

As a spectacle, it's bloody great, and that's why I go and see movies at cinemas, not wait for DVD/Video/download...the experience of the film at a cinema is everything.

They even made the fight scenes dull. I mean, even SOME bg music (eg that one of the Agent Smith/Neo fight that pavil posted on here a while ago), rather than just a low whine increasing in pitch.

I enjoyed it a lot
The ending of the car chase with the 2 trucks crashing and Neo rescuing Morpeus and the Keymaker definitely had the 'wow' factor for me, much more so than the T3 truck.

Yes, the rave scene went on too long, and the Architect scene was awful, but I loved the idea of programmer's 'backdoors', and the many oblique references to the Illuminatus mythology (about the only conspiracy theory the first film missed out!).

The third film will have to outdo the fight sequences ib this one, which should be amazing if they manage to pull it off, and I look forward to Morpheus (who is, let's face it, an irritating git) discovering that he's been wasting his entire life with the Zion 'construct'!

I enjoyed the original Matrix film and went to see matrix reloaded simply because my friends did. I do not fall for hype and had no expectations going in as I feel this is the best way to sample things. However I was bored throughout even in the extensively overdone car chase and the predictable fight scenes. I felt no tension during said scenes because you kinda knew that Neo was in no serious danger of dying because hey theres a trilogy to finish yet.

I can't even say I thought the film was good, I thought it was a really bad way of bringing people up to date ready for the third film.

and yeah W you keep throwing the word causarity around and nobody has any idea what it is please explain ?

I covered causality in law but never came across causarity
