Yes TV does matter. I have probably made my point very badly on that one. My point was never trying to be that TV doesn't matter, it is too much on an influence, even down to what people discuss on their coffee break at work - it's probably what happened in Eastenders/Coronation Street/Random Other Soap last night. The point was meant to be that people need to be a little bit more cluey (does such a word exist?) and not believe everything the media tells them. But then the vast majority of GD are intelligent people (compared to a lot of the people I come across) and know this anyway. The media does play a large part in forming peoples views and opinions, and while I appreciate the influence in some ways, I just wish people would stop, think, think some more and then think some more again before blindly believing what the newspaper/news/current affairs programme tells them.

I agree. But there are contrary examples. Why should women pay three times the price of men at the hairdresser's for cutting the hair, even if they don't have longer hair than men?

I don't know if it's like this in the uk, but it surely is where I live.

An example for your point is, that women often pay less admission to a club than men, but that's mainly in the interest of men.

In reality, the ad was probably aimed at men not women. I would be motivated to look into solutions to the problem if I thought my wife was about to run to my doctor to help me out. Applied psychology.
