Taylor's theory on motivation was simply that the only thing that motivates us is money. It was he who started the line production idea in the Ford factory. It works great for blue collar workers, who don't want to enjoy their jobs. They just want money to enjoy life outside of their jobs.

For the most part though, yes. It's pretty obvious that happiness leads to higher motivation.

Even if it is "obvious", you need to do an empirical verification before you should actually use it as an assumption.

If something is (in your opinion) obvious, you can happily assume all you like. If you wish to present it to your boss as fact you need empirical verification.
