To be fair it is a lot more than 2. Even when I was applying 3 years ago places like LSE, Cardiff, Bristol etc... were all stating that they preferred more traditional subjects such as Economics and Maths over ones like Accounting or Media Studies. I imagine since then it has become even more prevelant.

You are lucky then. In my area the three main state schools all now offer business studies rather than Economics (I was the last year to do Economics), none offer further maths and philosophy hasn't been offered in quite a while. Hopefully this will chance when they force a 6th form college on them all next year rather than each having their own.
