You can post a property bond, at least in some cases/jurisdictions. I imagine it's a more complicated procedure though. Banks are in the business of loaning money, so it's probably faster/easier to go through one of them.

Interest rates on home mortgages aren't that bad. You just don't want to go to a bail bondsman--that gets expensive.
