Re: The new University fees.

1) There is no such thing as a "degree in david beckham studies"

2) I seriously doubt theres a "degree in pyrotechnics" either

3) Media studies/sociology is not a worse degree than "classics", "business administration" or "lit crit" (we've done this before)

4) "When was the last time you saw a post for a philosipher advertised in the paper". Universities generally dont advertise for staff in newspapers. When was the last time you saw a post for quantum physicist or barrister advertised "in the paper"?

5) The problem isnt so much the proliferation of 'worthless degrees' as it is the lack of American style "breadth-as-opposed-to-depth" degrees in the british university system.
