DDA, I do agree that fundamentalist jihadists are a grave danger to us all. However, you have to realize how they get power. The old leaders in the middle east were not radical muslims, so why has this ideology taken root now? The only way to combat a problem is to find its source and destroy that. If you give these people a life, they will not throw it away. They feel left out, by the world, by their "sellout" muslims (rightwingers in europe etc) and by their own corrupt leaders, so they turn to the only ones who actually does something for them. Hamas is a bunch of shite, polticially, but socially they've done lots for the palestinians.
Undermining them, bombing more and creating more poverty, hunger and refugees will only escalate. For every fundamentalist you kill there will come ten more.
