these are logical though. England tend to get bogged down against teams playing 11 men behind the ball. Rooney and Owen are excellent forwards but being triple-marked tends to make that redundant. Beckham's crosses are always well-placed, but there's only so much you can do when there are 5 defenders in the 6-yard box. gerrard and cole's recent form means lampard's poor form can be overlooked as we still have people on the pitch who can ping in excellent shots from anywhere in the opposing half against defensive teams, but still.
Against a better, attacking team which is ever in a position to play the ball forward, however, there is
room. Roomfor strikers to manoeuver. Room so that crosses can be run onto. Room so that balls can be knocked down for other players. England are better at these things.
