Is not 'glorious defeat' usually a phrase that is meant in a good way. Either it means you were fighting against a much superior foe and put up a good fight that you were bound to lose or it means that you narrowly lost after a hard/well fought war. Both of which are usually complementary. And both correspond with how I would interpret last round; you were marginally outnumbered and fought a good fight.
