Not in any important way. Its nonsense to talk about the 'genre' that Kafka or Joyce were writing in, and there is nothing worthwhile to be gained from making these sort of classifications. Its advertising terminology, nothing more. What do you think you learn from being told that a film is a 'thriller' or a 'drama'? Think how many completely different types of films get thrown under these labels.
edit: Note that the examples of genres given on that wikipedia page are pretty much identical to the film genres you will see in most film-stores
