Sex Education

In light of the recent change in the Scottish curriculum, where primary school children in primary 3 and 4 will be told what sex is and how it works.

I remember many moons ago the dreaded PSE class where our 50 year old bearded guidance teacher started talking about sex, and the nurse came in with phallic objects of varying sizes to demonstrate how to put a condom on.

Apparently now, as part of the changes to the curriculum, new inclusions are
Oral sex, techniques and precautions
Being homosexual.
Non hetrosexual sex, techniques precautions and risks.

These extra additions will be taught to 15-16 year olds in school.

All of this is a result of multiple focus groups, starting wth the McGabe group in 2000.

Personally I think greater awareness is a good thing, but the actual manner in which these new subjects will be taught intrigues me.
I'm curious as to what the sex education in other countries is like.
