I spent 6months staying in Hostels etc. The advice i got was to get the top bunk, because they are less likely to have Bed bugs it also means that drunk people can't do nasty stuff you you easily.

although, it can get too hot, it can also be dangerous, one of my mates smacked his head on the ceiling when he was drunk during teh night!
