I enjoy XP as it added a new dynamic to the game. I do feel like it has been exploited beyond its intended design.

A simple solution that I came up with:
-Put a maximum cap on how much XP someone can get with 1 land. Say (10k or something)

This will allow everyone to continue to enjoy XP except for it will remove the escorting in for top 10 single land.

(Sorry if this has already been proposed in this thread as I skipped over the many flame war posts lol)
