Bernard Manning is one of the most famous brittish stand-ups of all time. Love him or hate him, but he was primarily a stand-up comedian and he did his gigs for some 40 years before passing away.
Ps. What the hell? Nobody else is mentioning George Carlin? Seriously, he's a legend, and still going as strong as ever. Also is it just that people don't know who Steven Wright is, or do you find him hard to get into? For me, he's one of the most ingenious comedians around, a master at wordplay and mixing concepts. His dry delivery is impeccable aswell.
