I've heard it called everything from snakebite black, to diesel in my locality, to nasty (narsty) at my friends university. depends where you are I guess, I think i will be trying the bitter version though, sounds interesting.
My favourite variation of snakebite black was in japan, where they never had any cordial so the irish barman used blackcurrant cassis instead, very nice.
