No, you don't. There's no such obligation - certainly none that you aren't imposing on yourself out of choice. Trust me, if I felt that there was a serious problem with a new alliance, I'd make my feelings clear. In fact, I've done that on two occasions.
In contrast, I do know the histories of two of PM's HCs, and both have been in successful alliances. I'm sure that they'll be doing their best, and they should be given every chance to succeed.
