I don't think anyone can argue that education has on the whole been devalued in recent years.
With 25% of A-level students getting an A it's incredibly difficult for universities to decide between students - of course they are going to compare the value of different A-levels.
For example, if two students are predicted AAA and they're going for an Engineering degree. One who has maths physics and photography is possibly going to lose out to someone who has maths physics and history.
A-levels are simply a way of getting into Uni, if they don't get you into uni then they have very little value.
