Spore won because Vikings were stuck in an agreement with them whereby if one was being blocked, the other would come to their aid. When Spore got blocked, we were bound by the agreement to assist (I considered us being your lapdogs). When we aided you, Ultores got pissed and hit us instead, which in turn disbanded the block.
What I find ironic is when Ultores were hitting us and Spore had minimal incomings for that period, when we asked for your support, you wanted to hit CT instead. I don't blame RexDrax/co for ending the agreement with you, it was a lopsided deal where Spore only did what benefited Spore.
I'm not criticising Spore, it's actually to the contrary, I'm merely pointing out that Zhil played a good political round.

While I had the utmost respect for Vikings (thus why a deal was started), I naturally always had Spore interests at heart whenever I conducted politics.
The Vikings/Spore deal I saw as a crucial deal to a victory for EITHER alliance. (Naturally I hoped it would be Spore to get that)
I think there were a variety of reasons really to the meltdown of the deal but from my perspective it had done it's job thankfully to allow Spore the victory. I don't recall Vikings asking for Spore assistance though when we dropped the deal with CT? Or is this in regards to us targeting CT for one night and you Ultores? If the latter, it was advised to me to do so by my military experts and as many know, I rarely go against my military specialists.
Spore won because it managed to isolate its competitors until it was too late politically. It also won due to much improved discipline within its ranks leading to less crashes and less waste of score.
