Mutu admitted it in court. Accepted that what he did was wrong and immediately undertook rehabilitation.
This is all taken into account in the disciplinary hearing.

I really do think the ban Rio got was wrong - nothing to do with him being a Man Utd player, just the unlucky guy to put a foot wrong not long after the FA gets rapped by FIFA for not being harsh enough.
However - Man Utd and the player himself drew the process out which constitutes a longer ban.
TBH though, he should have just got a large fine and been tested regularly for the rest of his career.
